Variety Afterschool Program receives grant from Widener Memorial Foundation
The Widener Memorial Foundation recently awarded Variety – the Children’s Charity, a grant of $93,428. The grant will support the Variety Afterschool program at the Widener Memorial School in Philadelphia.
The afterschool program, which serves children with disabilities, helps each child to work toward a functional and productive life in the community. The program consists of academic enrichment through project-based lessons and peer mentor modeling within a curriculum of academic games that support math and reading skills.
A long time funder of its namesake school, the foundation has more than doubled its funding for the program in the last four years. The additional funding has allowed Variety to introduce a gardening education program at the Variety Camp and Developmental Center in Montgomery County in 2015. The camp maintains a greenhouse and a large vegetable garden.
