Director of Educational Programs
Jean Merkl joined Variety in 2007 as the Extended School Year Director and since that time has added directing the Vocational Program, Worcester After School Programs and the Saturday Program to her responsibilities. Jean has a Bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University and almost 40 years’ experience in the ID field providing services to children and adults with disabilities.
Joan Smallwood Pryor joined Variety in 2014 as the Accounting/HR Manager. Joan has a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from LaSalle University. She has over 30 years of experience working in the for-profit and non-profit sectors in accounting, operations management and human resources.
Eric Perry first became associated with Variety in 1979. At that point, Eric was a seven year old child who used a wheelchair to ambulate. He spent nine summers as a camper at our fully accessible 80-acre facility, drastically increasing his mobility with help from the dedicated staff. In 2002, Eric returned to Variety as an employee and has held numerous positions across recent years. He currently serves the charity as its Business Manager, de facto IT Guy, and resident Variety Historian.
Chief Executive Officer
Angus joined Variety in 2007 as the Managing Director of Variety Club Camp and Developmental Center and was promoted to CEO in August of 2014. Angus has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts and a Master’s Degree in Non-Profit Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania. He has over 20 years of experience working with people with disabilities.
Hannah Berstein joined Variety in 2009 and has worked her way up through many positions, beginning as a general staff member, to Asst. Director of the Extended School Year, and now as Office Manager and Educational Program Coordinator. Hannah received her Bachelor’s Degree in Art Therapy with a concentration in Behavioral Psychology from Cedar Crest College.
Director of Facilities
Steve joined Variety full time in late Oct. of 2015 after volunteering for 3 years. Steve has over 30 years of progressive of Operations Management and Asset Management over half at the Executive Management level. Steve has a strong passion for Gardening. He renovated the sites greenhouse and continues to expand Variety’s garden. His passion has provided the Variety Camp with an award winning effort and supplied the public, some local restaurants and the Philadelphia Zoo with fruits, vegetables, flower plants and browse.
John Paterna joined Variety as Grants Director in 2012. He is a seasoned grant writer with over thirty years of experience in all aspects of grant development: Prospect research, grant writing, grant management and report writing. He has worked for educational institutions, a medical center, public television, and nonprofit organizations.
Special Events, PR, & Marketing Director
Mary joined the Variety staff in the fall of 2014. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Communications/Journalism with a concentration in Public Relations and minor in government from Shippensburg University. Mary has been planning special events in her local community for nearly 20 years.
Matt joined Variety in the summer of 2016. He graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor’s degree in English with a concentration in Professional Writing and a minor in Interactive Media. He works with Variety Camp’s social media, public relations, and other communications matters.
Director of Development
Harry joined Variety October 2016 as Director of Development. Harry has a Bachelors in Marketing from Drexel University. He has over 20 years of experience in nonprofit leadership.
Director of Camp Programs
Angela joined Variety Club in 2014 as an assistant working in our Extended School Year Program, Vocational Club, and Saturday Arts Program. Angela graduated from Gwynedd Mercy University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Human Services. She is currently attending Arcadia University for her masters in Special Education and Behavior Analysis.
After School Program Director
Sherrice Jones joined Variety in 2017. Sherrice is experienced in providing direct care, therapeutic support, coordinating services for Individuals diagnosed with Intellectual Disabilities and providing resources and supports for families working towards outcomes at home, and in the community. Sherrice received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management in 2011 at the University of Phoenix where she mastered leadership skills and program development. In 2015, she received a Master’s Degree of Public Health from LaSalle University where she became dedicated to raising awareness on Public Health and issues impacting communities, youth and families.
