On Wednesday, August 2nd, Variety — the Children’s Charity of the Delaware Valley hosted 22nd annual Annie Madden Sunshine Games. Children and young adults with disabilities who are participating in summer programs at Variety enjoyed a special day full of games and activities including yard games, a dunk tank, and more. The event kicked off with an opening ceremony featuring brief remarks from Variety CEO, Dominique Bernardo who was accompanied by Annie Madden’s parents. Eagles SWOOP and Cheer were also on hand for the opening ceremony thanks to Firstrust, the official sponsor of the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Annie Madden Sunshine Games honor Annie Madden, a Variety camp counselor who tragically lost her life in a car accident in 1999. A year after her death, her parents, Jim and Mary Ellen, decided there was no better way to invoke Annie’s memory than an annual care-free day of fun for campers and friends of Annie.
A number of volunteers from local organizations, including Aetna and Firstrust Bank, were in attendance to help facilitate the various activities throughout the day. Campers and staff were also treated to a BBQ lunch and a frozen treat from Cream and Ice. Thank you to 6abc for covering the day!
