On July 15, Variety hosted a special Yankee Doodle Dandy-themed prom for young adults with disabilities, creating a memorable evening filled with music, dancing, delicious food, and plenty of celebration.
Designed specifically for Variety participants ages 14–21, the event gave high school-aged campers and summer vocational participants the opportunity to experience all the excitement of prom in a welcoming environment that is thoughtfully designed with sensory needs in mind.
Participants arrived dressed to impress, complete with corsages and boutonnieres generously arranged. The evening began with hors d’oeuvres followed by a delicious sit-down dinner. Then it was time to hit the dance floor!
Variety’s Recreational Hall was transformed into a festive celebration where participants could dance, socialize with friends, and enjoy a night centered entirely around them. The evening culminated with the crowning of Prom King and Queen, as well as Prince and Princess, complete with crowns and plenty of well-deserved applause.
Variety’s prom is made possible through the incredible generosity of ACME Markets, which donated the food, decorations, photography, and floral services for the event—all at no cost to Variety.
Their support helps make it possible for Variety participants to enjoy the traditions and milestones that are such an important part of growing up, while ensuring the celebration is accessible and inclusive for everyone.
